Defence Minister, Naveed Qamar visited Naval Headquarters (NHQs) Tuesday where he was given an extensive brief on prevalent Maritime Security situation. He was apprised on Pakistan Navy’s efforts to maintain stability and peace in the region, despite its resource constraints.
The Defence Minister was also apprised about the importance of participation in the international efforts against crimes at sea. He was informed that Pakistan Navy will Inshallah take over the Command of Anti Piracy Force TF-151 in December this year and this would be 3rd time PN has had the honour of commanding the Task Force 151.
He was informed on Pakistan Navy’s Developmental Plans and the budgetary constraints affecting the realization of the Developmental Plans. The Defence Minister was also apprised of Pakistan Navy’s Nation building efforts in the Coastal Areas of Balochistan and Sind provinces. PN’s project of building Cadet College at Ormara was also highlighted during the briefing and that the Cadet College would Inshallah start its First academic session from April 2013.
The Defence Minister assured that Govt would provide all possible support to Pakistan Navy so that the PNs Developmental Plans materialize according to the timeline. He appreciated PN’s Initiatives at Regional & International level through participation in Task Forces to curb menace of piracy & terrorism. The Defence Minister also acknowledged PN’s efforts in developing various facilities in coastal areas which are helping in uplifting socio-economic condition of Baloch people.
