Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim on Tuesday expressed concern over the issue of Karachi’s ‘unverified voters’.
Speaking at a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Ebrahim said voter lists had been prepared with the utmost care and any mistakes in the lists would soon be rectified.
Chairing the meeting, he added that the commission would implement all orders issued by the Supreme Court.
Moreover, the meeting was briefed that installing CCTV cameras in every polling station was not practically possible, adding that, funds amounting to 75 billion rupees would be required for that purpose.
The meeting also discussed the allocation of election symbols to political parties and establishing call centres during the upcoming general elections.
Separately, Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed briefed Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on the preparations for the elections.
He said the commission had prepared a code of conduct for the elections.
Ahmed said displaying weapons would not be permitted during election campaigns, adding that, candidates would have to follow all the rules and regulations devised by the commission during their rallies and public meetings.
The prime minister assured the secretary of the government’s cooperation in order for it to administer free, fair and transparent elections on time.
