Pakistani parliamentarians have arrived in Baku to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh and Kashmir conflicts, chairman of Pakistani Parliament’s Special Committee on Kashmir, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman told journalists on Monday.
“Pakistan has always supported and will continue to support Azerbaijan’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. And we would like to see the Muslim world, including Azerbaijan providing the same support to Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
In Baku we will hold closed discussions on Nagorno-Karabakh occupied by Armenia, and will discuss further joint efforts of our countries to address the Nagorno Karabakh and Kashmir problems,” Fazl-ur-Rahman was quoted as saying by Trend News Agency.
The visit of the delegation of Pakistani parliamentarians to Baku started with visiting national leader Heydar Aliyev’s tomb in the Alley of Honor, as well as the Alley of Martyrs.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
