The United States on Tuesday hailed the dismissal of blasphemous charges against the Christian girl, Rimsha Masih who reportedly suffers from Down syndrome. “We were pleased to see those charges dismissed,” said Victoria Nuland, spokesperson of the US State Department. She also said that the US held regular human rights discussions with over hundred countries around the world, including Pakistan. Regarding President Karzai’s visit to India, she said that the US has been ‘encouraging both Afghanistan and India to strengthen ties amongst themselves’. “But we are obviously not brokers in these conversations,” she clarified.
