Japan provides additional US$ 4.7 million to support flood victims

Japan to provide emergency grant aid worth $ 4.7 million in view of supporting those who are affected by the devastating floods in 2012 in Pakistan. This new support comes in addition to the provision of emergency relief goods decided on November 9.
The emergency grant aid consists of three components i.e. Food security (US$ 2.9 million) through World Food Programme (WFP); Shelters and non-food items (US$ 1.0 million) through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Water and sanitation (US$ 0.8 million) through the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT)
In light of friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan, the Government of Japan has decided to carry out emergency assistance to alleviate the sufferings of those affected in the regions.
This assistance is extended in addition to the provision of emergency relief goods worth up to 35 million Japanese Yen (around 437,000 US Dollars) on which the Government of Japan decided earlier on November 9. Following this earlier decision, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is planning to deliver tents, blankets and plastic sheets to the regions in early to mid December.
