Thickly populated area of garrison city, Amerpura has been virtually occupied by furniture mafia as a large number of illegal furniture factories disregard bylaws are functional in residential area.
According to survey conducted by INP furniture factories are illegally operational in residential areas of Amerpura, particularly in street No.64, 65, 66 but Tehsil municipal administration is playing the role of silent spectator.
Chaudhry Shafiq, a resident of Street No.64 said that due to the slackness of Tehsil Municipal Administration, furniture factories illegally operating in residential areas and gives rise to respiratory and other fatal diseases like tuberculosis (TB) among the residents of the locality.
These factories have been set up inside the streets in connivance with the corrupt official of Town Municipal Administration, he added.
Raja Attiq, another resident said that lack of cleanliness and proper spray arrangements have turned these factories into hub of environmental pollution, adding that the same continue to trouble them through noise emission and toxic and pungent smell of liquid used for polishing furniture.
They said that several fire eruption incidents have occurred in the street due to presence of these factories, a group of residents said.
The residents demanded DCO Saqib Zaffar to take notice of the illegal operation of factories and demanded shifting of these factories to the industrial area at the earliest.
