Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) on Tuesday warned public and private sector defaulters to clear their arrears within the stipulated period or face disconnection of power supply.
Newly appointed LESCO Chief Executive Saleem, speaking to reporters said, “We have launched a vigorous campaign for the recovery of arrears. All defaulters have been strictly warned irrespective of their status to clear their current bills and arrears to avoid any action which may lead to immediate disconnection of their power connection.”
He said that all SEs, Xens and SDOs working in distribution companies in Sheikupura, Kasur, Okara, Lahore and Nankana districts had been directed to disconnect the power supply of defaulters forthwith and initiate action against them.
All the SDOs have also been strictly directed to personally pursue and plead cases in the court, he added. He said that recovery teams had been constituted at sub-division level to fully ensure 100 percent recovery of arrears especially dead arrears from the defaulters. Saleem said he will personally monitor the overall performance of all subordinate field officers and officials showing poor performance will be taken to task.
He warned all officials not to restore the power supply unless all the arrears were cleared failing which the concerned officer would be suspended.
He said that all officers would be responsible for achieving the targets sets by the authority.
All initiatives of recovery by higher management of LESCO can only be made successful if the most corrupt mafia of Merter Readers, Line Superintendents, Linemens and in some cases SDO and XEN's also is eradicated from the LESCO offices. The corrupt mafia at lower level is so agressive and influentail due to political, bribery sharing with senior or whatsoever reaons that they simply disobey the orders of their seniors also without any hesitation. I have deeply seen the behaviour of concerned staff with 100% jenuine and honest customers having zero default on their part. Junior staff least bothers regarding outstanding revenue collection for LESCO and is more conerned and friendly towards defaulters, electricity thieves and criminal elements of our society and even entertains them in LESCO offices with best possible protocol. I can share the whole story of my experience with these corrupt elements in LESCO offices if some honest and serious LESCO officer wants to listen. I can severe that I avoided myself from bribery to these corrupt ooficials but under a severe stress, humiliation and time wasting scenario. May Allah save our societ from corruption.
