Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif on Monday said his party would not be contesting the general election alone.
Talking to senior journalists and intellectuals in Lahore, Nawaz said the prospects of alliances between the PML-N, PML-F, PML-Likeminded and Jamaat-e-Islami were bright.
He said a fraud was being conducted prior to the election and a notice of this should be taken.
The PML-N president said the president of the country was answerable to the Supreme Court.
Commenting on the violence in Karachi, Nawaz said the solution did no lie in imposing a ban on pillion riding.
“The government is harassing the people in the guise of pillion riding and suspending mobile services,” he remarked.
The PML-N president said if militant wings of the ruling PPP and its coalition partners kept operating in Karachi, peace in the city would remain elusive.
“The Supreme Court (SC) had ordered in its verdict in the Karachi law and order case that the militant wings of the political parties be eliminated from Karachi,” he said.
He also condemned the suicide attack on former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad, adding that the government should take notice of such attacks.
“Government has taken no action against terrorists during the last four years. Only statements come from the government that terrorism will be curbed but no criminal is caught. If any culprit is arrested then investigations of the case are not finalised,” he added.
Citing the Wali Khan Babar murder case, Nawaz said six accused had been arrested in the case. “The government should bring them before public,” he demanded.
Condemning Israel’s military strikes in Gaza, he said Israel had unleashed sheer barbarity through the attacks. “All Muslim countries should stand with the people of Gaza in this hard time,” he said.
He appealed to the UN to take notice of Israeli aggression and brutalities and adopt a resolution against Israel. “The US role in this regard is highly inappropriate,” he held.
To a question about elections in Pakistan, he said electoral process in the country would also be affected due to the attack on Gaza.
“If people want solution to their problems, they should elect such a leadership that takes decision in national interests. If people don’t do that, it will be their fault,” he underlined.
