The House Tuesday passed a resolution demanding the government to stop the use of illegal arms and deweaponize the country for restoration of peace.
It said the security of the people and peace of the country is under constant threat due to wide-spread use of illegal arms. It also demanded for concrete measures to stop the use of arms by the public. However, ANP, PML-N and JUI-F opposed the resolution.
The resolution was moved by Dr. Farooq Sattar.
Earlier, taking part in the debate, Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah said it is imperative to deweaponize the country to maintain law and order situation and peace in the country.
Shaikh Rohail Asghar said that there is dire need to take practical steps in this regard because the issue cannot be resolved just by discussions.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman was of the view that use of illegal arms is the main reason behind the unlawful activities in different parts of the country.
The mover of the resolution, Farooq Sattar said that whole country is under the threat of terrorism and extremism due to the nexus of criminals and the terrorists.
Himayatullah Mayar said that along with deweaponization, operation against the terrorists must also be carried out through out the country.
Deweaponizing would be the step in right direction but efforts must also be made to eliminate extremisim. To achieve this masses must be educated in order to reduce the influence of extremists – a tall order but not that difficult to achieve provided funds are channeled in the right direction.
Devoupnisation is a slow and long term process which may not bring desired results but may incur another cost of billions to the state exchequer. First of all, ruling parties will have to display their responsibility, their integrity with the nation. It is not difficult to understand that in a family of say 20 people, head of family knows the character of each member better that anybody else and he can mend the things better than any body else.
