Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Umar Ata Bandial on Monday allowed Board of Directors of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) to appoint their nominee as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The CJ passed the order on a petition filed by Ghazanfar Ali Khan and 5 others challenging the recruitment of new CEOs from the open market instead of filling the post by promoting senior officials working in the electric supply companies.
The petitioners submitted that the recruitment process for the appointment of new CEOs of electric supply companies, including LESCO, FESCO and 7 others, from open market were in progress which was violation of promotion policy and WAPDA electricity rules 1966.
They contended that these posts should be filled by promoting senior officers working in the engineering cadre of different electric supply companies.
They prayed the court to direct authorities to fill the posts of CEOs LESCO and FESCO by promoting eligible senior officers working in the engineering cadre. Earlier, the court had barred the respondents from appointing new CEOs for LESCO and FESCO but allowed them to continue the selection process.
However, on the last hearing, the CJ allowed the nominated person by Board of Directors LESCO to be appointed as its CEO.
