Two Indian girls were arrested and jailed for 14 days on Monday after a Facebook post critical of Mumbai shutdown on Sunday – the day of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s funeral. However, they were bailed within hours after paying two surety bonds of Rs 15,000 each. One of the women had posted on her Facebook page, “Respect is earned, not given and definitely not forced. Today Mumbai shuts down due to fear and not due to respect.” Her friend had liked the post. According to a report by NDTV, police had arrested both the girls under Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code for making “statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes”.

  1. Hi there ….. I certainly disagree to what the police has done, where the police is when the leaders are abusing the prime minister, they are abusing the leaders in the parliament , pictures are burnt and so on…. It’s disgusting that India is such a hypocrite…. And don’t people have their own opinion of everything!!!!!
