Under the Tertiary Education Support Program (TESP) of World Bank, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and provincial governments decided to undertake collaborative steps for improving quality standards of college education in Pakistan.
This was stated by by HEC Executive Director Prof Dr Sohail Naqvi while inaugurating a workshop on the evaluation of affiliated colleges for quality standards. He said that college education was an important pillar of higher education. HEC was working closely with provincial higher education departments to bring college education at par with international standards.
HEC Director General Academics Mr Farman Ullah Anjum said that through this initiative 800 college administrators would be trained over a period of three years throughout the country
Prof Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi while presenting an overview of the program said that it was aimed at enhancing the standard of education in affiliated colleges and to identify colleges which met the minimum quality standards prescribed by HEC.
World Bank had agreed to support HEC‘s Medium Term Development Framework-II (MTDF-II) for the year 2011-15 through the Tertiary Education Support Program (TESP). For effective execution of the programme, implementation modalities had also been agreed on and Government of Pakistan and World Bank had signed an agreement in 2011.
Under this agreement, the success of execution would be measured through key performance indicators (KPI) including 10 disbursement linked indicators (DLIs).
Through this program, during the first years of execution, 100 degree colleges, on the basis of provincial quota would be selected for capacity building in the fields of academic and financial management. In addition, theme based training programs would also be offered to principals and teaching faculty of the colleges.
