President Asif Ali Zardari will address a special session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assembly on Monday (today). President Zardari would be the first president, who would be addressing a provincial assembly session on the invitation of the Chief Minister and provincial assembly Speaker. The session has been scheduled at 10.00am on Monday, while the president will address the legislators at 2.00pm in the afternoon. Speaker Karamatullah Chagharmati said that he had invited President Zardari during the SAARC Conference in Islamabad to address the assembly. “The president’s visit and address to the legislators will be a great honour for the assembly and people of the province,” he said, which he believed was happening for the first time in national history. Under the assembly rules of business, the governor can address a special session. However, Chagharmati said speaker had powers to relax rules and invite head of the state or any high-profile dignitary to address the special session of the provincial assembly. He said he had discussed the agenda of the special session with the opposition benches and all members would receive President Zardari according to Pakhtun traditions.
