Despite publishing advertisements in newspapers twice, 47 posts of consultant doctors are still lying vacant in the Children’s Hospital for more than two years.
Sources said on Sunday that the vacant posts were waiting to be filled in by associate professors, assistant professors and around 33 senior registrars. The Punjab Health Department had advertised the posts at least two times in the local newspapers but failed to get a positive response from the community of doctors. When contacted, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) head, Dr Salman Kazmi said neither senior doctors nor medical officers were ready to work on meager salaries at basic pay scales (BPS) 17 and 18 posts. He said the government was using hefty amounts on procuring medical equipment but there was no one who could operate and use the equipment without the supervision of experts. He said the Punjab government was not serious about handling the issues of the health sector and was using delaying tactics in this regard.
