Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a petition challenging purchase of 79 China made locomotives from a blacklisted company, till January 16.
The single bench comprising Bandial was hearing the petition filed by advocate Feroze Shah Gillani.
Earlier, railways counsel appeared before the court and pointed out that various documents related to the matter had been placed on record.
However, the petitioner said that he did not receive a copy of record.
The court directed railways counsel to provide a copy of the said documents to the petitioner and adjourned the matter till January 16.
The petitioner, in his petition, submitted that railways administration signed a contract to purchase 79 engines from a blacklisted company.
The petitioner further stated that Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) disapproved the proposed decision but its recommendations were ignored by the railways authorities.
He said Pakistan Railways had made a Rs 15 million down-payment to the blacklisted company which was an illegal step.
He prayed the court to take notice of locomotives purchase from the company and issue directions to restrain authorities from moving ahead with the agreement.
The Supreme Court had earlier examined the purchase of Chinese locomotives through a suo-motu action and allowed railways authorities to go ahead in accordance with the PPRA rules.
