Lack of cleanliness irritates residents

Residents of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi faced a lot of difficulty, as the authorities concerned seemed least interested in fulfilling their responsibilities regarding cleanliness.
Heaps of garbage, scattered construction raw material and the recent mushrooming of a large number of bushes alongside roads and streets need immediate attention.
Residents blamed the concerned authorities for the situation, which had caused different kinds of diseases in the locality.
They said that pedestrians avoided using footpaths due to the bushes and preferred roads, which caused disruption in the smooth flow of traffic and could also lead to accidents.
Residents also alleged that the civic body did not bother to ensure proper maintenance of parks. They said that there was no place where public gatherings could be organized in the sectors.
Kashif Ali, a resident of F-6, said that the issue had been brought to the notice of CDA. Even the roads and streetlights were in poor shape, adding to the woes of residents.
The residents said that they had to hire people to check the growth themselves.
When contacted, the CDA official said that the concerned staff regularly cleaned parks, streets and markets. He also said that CDA had started cutting shrubs on the footpaths to provide safe way to pedestrians.
CDA would also shortly launch a drive against wild grass in the capital city.
