The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday extended the deadline for members of parliament to submit affidavits about their nationality until November 30. The decision was taken in a key meeting of the ECP held on Monday.
ECP Additional Secretary Muhammad Afzal Khan said the deadline was extended on a request by the parliamentarians, adding that affidavits would be accepted after confirmation. According to sources in the ECP, there were 212 lawmakers, including some leading politicians of the PPP, MQM and the PML-N, who did not submit the affidavit by November 9, the previous deadline.
