City violence: Five more surrender to death

The death toll from violence related incidents has risen to five on Monday in the provincial metropolis. According to media reports, Dr. Nisar was shot outside a clinic in Lee Market located in the Lyari area of Karachi, while two people who were injured during firing in Malir succumbed to their injuries.
Meanwhile, two more people were killed in the early hours of Monday morning in the Orangi Town sector 11 and Manghopir areas of the city.
Furthermore, at least 15 suspects including members of a banned outfit were arrested as rangers conducted search operations across the city. Weapons were also recovered from several suspects.
Earlier on Sunday, twelve people were killed in different incidents of violence and firing.
On Saturday, the incidents claimed twenty lives including one police officer and one regional office bearer of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal-Jamaat.
Sindh Inspector General (IG), Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari said that the police force and rangers were working hard to maintain the law and order situation in the city.
The IG police claimed that two target killers and two extortionists were also arrested during the ongoing operations, while adding that three accused were also arrested in Hyderabad, he added.
The wave of bloody violence had been continuing unabated in the city and had claimed at least 37 lives since Saturday.
2,000 citizens arrested for pillion riding: More than 2,000 citizens were arrested in Karachi for violating the ban on pillion riding.
After the killing of 40 innocent persons in a wave of fresh violence in the city during the past two days, the police had been unable to arrest those involved in the unrest but they were successfully harassing the citizens and had locked down only those people who were involved in violating the ban on pillion riding.
According to police sources, 150 cases were registered in one day against those violating the ban while 600 cases were registered on the second day since the imposition of ban.
The arrested pillion riders told Online that the police took their belongings into custody while searching them and looted them of cash and also used their mobile phones for making personal phone calls.
Meanwhile, according to police officials, they were facing a shortage of handcuffs after arresting a large number of violators.
Statements in couple’s
murder recorded: Civil judge and Judicial Magistrate, Aurangzeb Ahmed recorded the statements of the witnesses in the murder case of Istiaq Shaikh and Sami Detho, the couple whose bodies were found buried in a village in rural Hyderabad last month.
The witnesses Muhammad Aijaz Shaikh and Rehmatullah Thebo appeared before the judge here on Monday.
The Paban police had so far arrested seven suspects in this regard, out of the 22 who had been nominated in the first information report (FIR) registered by Ismail Shaikh, the brother of Ishtiaq.
On November 8, a team of doctors and Judge Ahmed had exhumed the body of Samia Detho from Yousuf Dada graveyard in the Mori Mangar village.
The medical team would submit a post-mortem report and laboratory tests results to establish a case of homicide.
Failure to maintain peace: IG Sindh issues show cause
notice to 3 DIGs : Sindh Inspector General (IG), Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari has issued show cause notice to three deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of three zones owing to the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.
According to sources, the IG had expressed his anger over the performance of high police officials for failing to maintain a proper law and order situation and served show cause notices on the three DIGs. The IG had ordered them to give a detailed explanation in writing over their inability to control incidents of violence in their jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, he also ordered the Police Head Quarters DIG, Tahir Naveed and sought a detailed report of the current situation and asked him to make a list of those people who were involved in worsening the situation.
IG orders strict security on Diwali
The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP), Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari has directed the Sindh Police to make strict security arrangements across Sindh on the occasion of the Hindu religious festival of Diwali. He informed that the security plan for the event would be prepared by the senior superintendents of police (SSPs) and divisional superintendents of police (SPs) with the participation of representatives of the Hindu community, said a statement issued here on Monday. He directed the station house officers (SHOs) to increase police patrolling in the Hindu populated areas, while police personnel in plain clothes would also be deployed in different areas. He said the police personnel would be briefed about the security arrangements at public places, public and private buildings, mosques and imambargahs, and especially the places of worship of the Hindu community. The Sindh Police chief said that strict security measures would be adopted for the Diwali festival in order to maintain peace and to ensure protection of life and property of the citizens.
