Sitting thousands of miles away, my heart goes out to three retired generals – the trio led by supercilious Lt Gen (retd) Javed Ashraf Qazi. The other two in his team are Lt Gen (retd) Saeed-uz-Zafar and Maj Gen (retd) Hamid Hasan Butt. Someone has forwarded me an email in which Qazi has bewailed how the NAB had launched a media campaign to defame him and his three associates who served in the railways in top positions. Qazi has erred here. He and friends didn’t serve the railways; instead, the railways served them. Yet Qazi touches my heart because of my own reason. I am humble, modest, yet I appreciate arrogant and puffed up baloneys. They’re a pleasure to watch. When Qazi gave a shut-up call to a journalist, his stature in my yardstick of judging swollen-headed men went up many notches. Well done, sir, I am proud of you.
While Qazi is abrasive, his comrade Saeed-uz-Zafar is soft spoken. Speaking softly, he suggested the nation to vote for someone who is neither he nor she. Well done again, general. Will the trio only face hard questions or will they be made to pay for the loss they caused to the railways? Remember when the chips in the stock market fall, the institutions step in to buoy it up. If the retired generals go under, will their institution bail them out?
