Construction work on roads in sector I-11/2 of the federal capital has been stopped due another clash between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the citizens affected by the construction activities. According to sources, the contract of construction of roads in sector I-11/1 and 2 was awarded in October 2011 and the work was to be completed in a period of one and a half years, but only 13 percent work instead of the promised 66 percent was completed even after a lapse of one year. The CDA had previously made many attempts to start the construction work, but the affectees would stop the project each time, thus delaying the construction of roads in the sector. The CDA could face financial losses as it had to pay escalation money to the contractor in case of a delay in the project. It is important to mention here that construction work on the sector was initiated 21 years ago but could not be completed till date. Sector I-11/1 had been largely encroached upon by slum dwellers and was considered a safe haven for outlaws, but the concerned authorities had been reluctant to start an operation against them.
