The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) referendum on Quaid’s or Taliban’s Pakistan has once again been postponed. The party has this time said that the postponement comes as a sign of respect for the month of Muharram.
According to a press release of the MQM, the decision was taken during a meeting of MQM’s Pakistan and London Coordination Committees on Friday.
During the meeting, the coordination committees decided to postpone the referendum, keeping in view the fact that leaders and elected representatives of MQM meet several Ulema before the start of Muharram to promote unity among different sects.
The new date for the referendum will be announced later.
The referendum, initially scheduled for November 8, had earlier been postponed and rescheduled to November 14 as the date clashed the country’s most prominent arms fair — IDEAS 2012.
The MQM had announced to hold a referendum across the country to ask people whether they would like to live in a Pakistan run by the Taliban or the one envisioned by the Quaid-e-Azam.

  1. Stop the facade of referendum Mr Altaf Hussain.
Your party represents 25 percent of population of Karachi. The referendum will represent that segment of population.
Besides, never on the earth a party which is an ethnic and terrorist party hold a referendum. The Parliament can conduct a referendum.
It is quite obvious that MQM has not received any response from the other political parties or even its staunch ally PPP.

  2. Referendums are conducted by Sates, not political parties.

This is an out and out fraud being pulled on common folks by MQM. People are not stupid or as the famous saying goes "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people, all of the time".

It is time MQM leadership stopped these shenanigans, stopped its criminal activities involving some of its elements in kidnapping, bhatta, torture and alleged murders. It should clean its house and become a legitimate national political party. Only then can it attain respectability at a national level and may even get support outside Karachi and Hyderabad.

MQM can be a very vibrant political force nationally as it has some good and dedicated people in it and being close to common folks, they can deliver reforms to the country better than any other political party. To accomplish all this, Altaf Hussain has to return and face whatever charges are framed against him. If he is innocent, let him be exonerated honourable and if he is guilty, let him pay penance and start all over.

  3. In respect of referendum:)
yes we know very well how they give respect to all. They have very good repute in these events no doubt, it means something more bigger is being planned in UK black house for Karachi people in coming days.:(

  4. Respect for Moharram or you, Altaf Hussain, has seen the writing on the wall. How the hell could a referendum be held by an ethnic and so called political party. Who has given the mandate to hold referendum Mr Altaf Hussain. Is your coordination committee, which comprises of a herd of sheep, equivalent to the parliament of Pakistan??? which has mandated you to hold referendum?

  5. Did MQM just now realize that its Muharram? What a joke. A party, whose leader is such a coward that he dare not come back to Pakistan, can only produce bigger cowards. These offsprings of hindus should be pushed back into India so they can be back together with their own kind and leave Pakistan alone.
