Construction of Marrer Chowk Tunnel to start soon

The construction of the Marrer Chowk Tunnel project will start soon as Pakistan Railways completed its work on the temporary railway track diversion project.
According to officials from Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), the project would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 429 million in a period of 120 days. The construction of the bridge would cost Rs 158 million. RDA officials said the railway tunnel project and the design of the structure had been vetted by Railways authorities. They said the pile test work on the project site would commence on Thursday. The officials further said that the width of each side of the road under the railway line would be expanded from 33 feet to 65 feet. So far Rs 76 million have been paid to the Railways, Rs 24 million to WAPDA and Rs 2 million to PTCL for shifting their utility services from the project site, RDA officials added. The project will help resolve the traffic congestion problem at the busiest boulevard of the city. After the construction of new tunnels on both sides of the railway overhead bridge, the boulevard will not require traffic signals.
