Investigation to identify the causes of detestable academic results of public colleges and the higher secondary schools of the metropolis in Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-11 annual examination 2012, led to the conclusion that under qualified teaching staff of the humanities group was the cause of most of the students failing in the examinations.
All students of atleast 10 government colleges and higher secondary schools failed in the annual examination. Similarly there are 13 other public institutions from which only one student graduated each. The above mentioned colleges do not have proper teaching staff and laboratory facilities for the students of humanities group in their respective institutions. Seven of the ten colleges from which no student could clear the exam were operating in the public sector. Of the 13 colleges from which only one student managed to pass per batch, five were public sector and eight were private sector entities. The college from where no student passed were; Govt. Talking to Pakistan Today, Sindh Director General (DG) Colleges Prof Nasir Ansar said that shortage of teaching staff and laboratory facilities in government colleges and higher secondary schools for humanities group was the reason behind bad performance in HSSC Part-II annual examination 2012. He said that “we have limited enrolment in public colleges and higher secondary schools and the number of registration is declining with each passing year and it is impossible to hire manpower for a few students. This year we have only 770 students in government-run colleges, and in some colleges we have two and in others we have a maximum of five students.

  1. Disagree with the statement of (DG) – Prof Nasir Ansar. Actually there is no shortage of teachers but have the problem of mismanagement. Teachers get transferred to the colleges where they wish by paying some sort of bribe to the officers or to the staff. The other problem is that the honest person cannot survive at these posts for the long time because they try to prevent the wrong orders or activities. We can take an example of Ex(Additional Director) Bashir Ahmed Shaikh who has recently got retired. I personally know him and he offered his best services in Thatta when he was appointed their as an EDO Education and improved a lot the situation of education in Thatta and suspended lot of ghost teachers as well as political influenced teachers and got threaten lot of time and in reward he got a letter to hand over the charge of EDO to DCO and report to the concerned authority for further response.
