SP among eight killed in Peshawar bombing

At least eight people, including a superintendent of police and his two guards, were killed and more than 36 others injured in a suicide blast in Peshawar on Wednesday.
According to AIG Shafqat Malik, a suicide bomber blew himself up near the vehicle of SP investigation Hilal Haider in the historic Qissa Khawani Bazaar, in Razik police precincts.
As a result, Haider, two police guards and three passers-by were killed on the spot, while 30 others sustained injuries.
The vehicle the police officer was riding was smashed into pieces, while the explosion partially damaged four other vehicles and five shops in the vicinity as well.
SP City Asif Iqbal told reporters at the site of attack that a suicide bomber struck the vehicle of Hilal Haider, adding that six to seven kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast.
He said Haider had left his residence and was en-route to his office when the suicide bomber, who was on foot, struck.
Rescue and security teams rushed to the site of attack and helped move the bodies and injured to Lady reading Hospital.
Hospitals spokesman said 36 injured people had been received and the condition of six of them was critical.
Iqbal said limbs and some other body parts of the suicide bomber had been recovered would be sent for forensic examination.
He added that evidence had been gathered from the site of the blast and investigations were in progress.
