Mandiwalla elected to Senate unopposed

Advisor to Prime Minister on Investment Saleem H Mandviwalla has been elected senator unopposed here on Thursday. Mandviwalla working as Chairman Investment Board with the status of a minister of state was awarded ticket by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for the seat that fell vacant after the resignation of Adviser to PM on Petroleum Dr Asim, who had to leave the Senate due to dual nationality issue. The decision to award the party ticket was taken at a high-level meeting in Islamabad which took many provincial leaders and workers by surprise. Saleem H Mandviwalla filed his nomination paper on Tuesday to the Election Commission in Karachi. The Provincial Election Commissioner Sonu Khan Baloch scrutinized the nomination papers of candidates while other candidate for the slot Rashid Rabbani withdrew his papers after which Mandviwalla was declared successful unopposed.
