Karachi firing: 16 shot dead in last 24 hours

The renewed spell of violence erupted in the wake of yesterday’s twin sectarian killings claimed at least 16 lives during the last 24 hours in the metropolis, as two more were killed in Orangi Town, media reports Wednesday.
The latest violent incident occurred in Orangi Town at Nishan-e-Haider Chowk where Jahangir and Raza Jan were shot to death. Bodies of the two deceased were brought to Jinnah Hospital.
The twin murders spawned immense tension around the area followed by firing incident near ICI Bridge where a man was injured.
Earlier, Faraz Haider, who sustained injuries in a firing incident yesterday near Dakkhana Chowk area of Liaquatabad while a funeral procession was proceeding through the area, succumbed to his wounds at hospital.
Triple killings in the incident gave a spur to tension in several areas including Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gulbahar, Sohrab Goth and Ancholi.
The funeral prayers for Wasim Haider, Faraz Haider and Qasim Ali will be offered this afternoon.
Meantime, three minibuses and a truck were set on fire in Liaquatabad, Karimabad Bridge and Sohrab Goth during string of violence that brought life at a standstill in the concerned areas.
Meantime, no culprits involved in the killings were arrested thus far.
