Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Habib ur Rehman on Tuesday said that the crime rate is declining across the province due to the effective policing and hard working officers and officials.
He expressed these views in his special messages sent to RPO Multan Aamir Zulifqar and RPO Gujranwala Muhammad Amin Wains for carrying out two separate and successful operations against the criminals.According to details, last night crossfire erupted between Multan police (Jalalpur police station) and six offenders when the police raided a house to arrest the criminals. The police also retaliated and as a result, two offenders Mushtaq alias Bagga and Shaukat alias Baggu were killed while their four accomplices managed to escape. The deceased were wanted by the Multan police in several cases of dacoities, robberies, and gang-rape. It is important to mention here that the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, taking notice of a gang-rape incident in 2008 in which both the criminals were involved, had suspended all the officers of Jalalpur police station from service.Similarly, Gujraat police foiled a robbery attempt at UBL moneychanger in A-division, where the police arrested the criminals before they could break they could steal any money. A police team was on routine patrol in Union Council 59 when they noticed hue and cry inside a moneychanger’s shop. As the police stormed into the shop, they saw the robbers were putting looted money worth Rs 1.7 million into a bag. As the robbers resorted to firing, the policemen also retaliated. As a result, the police have arrested the bandits, recovered illegal weapons and cash from their possession. The robbers are being interrogated.
