British boxing champion David Price’s promoter, Frank Maloney has accused Andrew Flintoff of putting up a TV-stunt, after the former England captain posed for photos with the world title contender during a media conference.
Maloney poured scorn on what he described as a ‘stunt which should never be allowed to happen’.
“Giving Flintoff a professional licence with no experience of boxing is a joke. It gives our sport a bad name,” the Daily Mail quoted Maloney, as saying.”They asked if we could be on the same bill but I would never be involved in promoting something like this. This is nonsense but in our sport it’s dangerous nonsense,” he added. It comes after Flintoff sowed his aspirations of taking up the sport and is training under famous father-son boxing duo Barry and Shane Mcguigan for his ring debut in the MENS arena on November 30. During the conference, Flintoff was due to share the media podium with Price and Maloney but left quickly with McGuigan when he sensed the mood, the paper said. Maloney was also deeply critical of the British Boxing Board of Control, saying, “It is a disgrace they have given Flintoff a licence. I told the chairman, Charles Giles, that he should be sacked for approving this scandal.”
