This is in apropos to the headline captioned “Kayani hits back” (Nov 06). The rare statement of Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has created furore in the political circles and media quarters, all viewing through their respective idiosyncratic lens. To many, it is a warning against the efforts to draw a wedge between the people and armed forces. A few quarters dubbed it as a veiled warning to all the critics who unnecessarily target and malign the army. Another section of media calls the statement as a reaction of army over its bashing at various forums. Others lash out at the critics of the military, suggesting them not to forget the sacrifices of army while maligning the institution.
All said and done, it is the beauty of the democratic norms that abodes healthy criticism amongst its institutions for the betterment of the country. Nonetheless, media cartels having anti-Pakistan agenda are trying to twist the facts and paint the army chief’s statement in bad light. The forces bent to destabilise the country are resorting to pitch army against the apex court through drawing conclusions of army’s clash with the judiciary by playing with the address of the CJP to grade-21 officers in Islamabad. Needless to say, the soldiers of armed forces belong to the same soil, drawing their strength from the general masses. Therefore, any effort that draws a wedge between the people and army will undermine the national interest. The people of Pakistan must vouch against such a situation to avert any conspiracy and dispel such an impression in advance.
