Funeral prayer of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Jalil-ur-Rehman, who was gunned down on Saturday in Hyderabad, were held on Sunday.
Two people of Bohra community and MQM’s Jalil-ur-Rehman, who was former UC nazim, were shot dead in an armed attack in Hyderabad late on Saturday.
Rehman was also joint sector in charge of the MQM. He was elected deputy nazim from UC-11 Hyderabad in 2005 and had also served as caretaker city nazim of Hyderabad.
Police said unknown assailants on two motorbikes targeted the MQM leader when he was sitting in a hotel near Domniwah Road. His murder sowed panic and tension in the city as aerial firing was also reported from different areas.
Rehman’s funeral prayers were offered at Nishat Chowk. MQM MPAs Sohail Yousuf, Waseem Hussain, Zonal Incharge Sharif Khan, Zonal Committee members attended the funerals among a large number of party workers.
MQM leadership has condemned the murder and demanded of the government to ensure security of citizens and peace in the city.
Two brothers belonging to Bahra community also fell prey to the violence when armed miscreants opened fires in Hyderabad’s Bohri Bazar area, killing 25-year old Ghulam Murtaza and 35-year old Shabbir Ali. The two brothers were also laid to rest today.
Meanwhile, Bohri Bazar, one of the busy markets of the city, remained closed on Sunday in protest against the twin murders, as police was investigating motive behind the killings.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain and Rabta Committee have condemned killing of senior party men demanded immediate action against the culprits.
