Sindh Inspector General of Police Fayyaz Ahmed Laghari has directed police officials to compile all relevant details of people residing or doing business in buildings located on traditional routes of Muharram procession.
Chairing a meeting at the central police office (CPO) on Saturday to review law and order situation particularly during the forthcoming holy month of Muharram, he also ordered to keep vigil on people arriving in the metropolis. He also ordered for expansion and improvement in the community policing system, through close collaboration between area police and business community of Karachi. “During this exercise no unnecessary inconvenience must be caused to the law abiding citizens,” he said.
The Sindh police chief said teams comprising cops from CID, Special Police Branch and Karachi Police must be constituted for efficient sharing of intelligence about any development witnessed in slums and suburbs of Karachi.
He also assigned senior police officers to compile details of all those arriving to the city and acquiring houses on rent. He said besides details about those already residing in slums or makeshift dwellings raised on open plots and also those doing businesses in fast erupting commercial areas in the metropolis.
“This is extremely crucial not only prior to Moharram-ul-Harram but otherwise too as would help to nab anti social and criminal elements,” he said.
Laghari said deployment of police force at all important sites besides assigning of cops in accordance to the beat system could significantly help in reducing the incidence of street crimes.
On the occasion DIG South informed the meeting that a pilot project of community policing system was at anvil in old city area with traders of the area also actively involved in the scheme. The meeting was also attended by Additional IG – Karachi, Iqbal Mahmood, DIG – Sindh, Tahir Navaid, AIG Operations, Naim Shaikh and others.
