Government to complete its tenure, says Kaira

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said that assemblies would not be dissolved and the government would complete its tenure.
“The credit for that goes to the Parliament, masses and the media,” he said while talking to a private television channel.
The minister said that people had also reposed confidence in Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in elections held in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in by-elections.
He said that after coming to power, the PPP-led government had faced challenges such as terrorism, the situation in Swat and in the rest of the country.
“Food commodities that were being imported at that time were now being exported,” he said.
The minister said that the Constitution had also been revived in its original form, adding that the president had transferred his powers to the parliament.
He said that country’s revenue was increasing, adding that the federal government had provided an extra amount to provinces for the smooth flow of system. “Despite inflation the government increased salaries,” he maintained.
Replying to a question, he said that the federal government had released an extra amount to the Punjab government but the desired results had not been achieved.
Kaira said that a huge amount had been spent on the construction of a road in a specific area of Punjab. He said that a large part of that budget had been utilized on a single city in Punjab.
He said that Pujab government should answer to the white paper issued by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
He said “The credit for decreased load-shedding went to Secretary Water and Power Nargis Sethi who had taken appropriate decisions in this regard.”
To another question, he said that Imran Khan was the head of a political party in Pakistan and the government had sought clarification from the Canadian authorities for questioning him at the Toronto airport on his way to New York.
“We are waiting for an answer from the Canadian High Commission and will only take a decision in this regard when details will be provided to us,” he added.
