A woman wrote in her diary about how she poured bleach and drain cleaner down a young dog’s throat and enjoyed doing it, according to police. Close to 100 people brandished signs and voiced their anger outside Marathon County Courthouse in, Wausau, Wisc. on Wednesday to protest the alleged actions of Sean Janas, 20, who is accused of brutally and methodically abusing a 4-year-old dog named Mary, according to the Wausau Daily Herald. Janas allegedly poisoned and stabbed Mary, a Labrador/shepherd mix, in June. City Pages reports that the dog died in June after months of torture, cops said. Janas is charged with felony mistreatment of an animal causing death, poisoning an animal and lying to police, according to WSAW. The station reports that Janas waived her right to a preliminary hearing, not challenging the charges against her. She could face five years in prison and $30,000 in fines if convicted. Stacy Cole of Wausau radio station WIFC told the Pierce County Herald that people around the world are demanding that Janas be fully punished. They also want tougher animal cruelty laws. Protestor Sheila Wirig is one of them. “We wanna make sure that Wausau and Wisconsin takes seriously the way we do dog abuse, animal abuse,” Wirig told WSAW. “We think the fees and punishments should be stronger.”
