Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mian Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that General (r) Pervez Musharraf took an unconstitutional step to save his rule five years ago on November 3, calling it a black day in the history of Pakistan. The CM said that Musharraf’s declaration of emergency on November 3 2007 was a desperate attempt to remain in power. Sharif said the entire nation stood united against his unlawful action that caused irreparable damage to the country. He stressed that the country would have been progressing had the dictator not ended Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government unlawfully in 1999. He said Pakistan would have been among developed nations had the democratic government not been ousted. The PML-N believed in the supremacy of law and constitution and would continue to oppose every unconstitutional measure, he added.
