Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the time had come to hold the looters of national wealth accountable and recover the pilfered public money.
While addressing a party meeting in Raiwind, Nawaz said that every single penny looted by corrupt politicians should be returned and deposited back in the national exchequer.
The twice-elected former prime minister said that his party would make the country a “welfare state” after coming to power.
Nawaz pledged to reconnect the “development process” from the point where it had been disrupted by his nemesis General (r) Pervez Musharraf, who overthrew his government in a bloodless military coup on October 12, 1999.
The PML-N chief further said that due to the selfish and anti-masses policies of the sitting Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led government, the countrymen were not getting benefits of the restored democracy.
He said that the sitting political leadership had plundered the national exchequer with both hands, and that it had proved itself as the worst-ever democratic government in the country’s history.
Nawaz also urged PML-N activists and office bearers to accelerate efforts for reorganising the party, and make arrangements for upcoming general polls. He claimed that the PML-N’s credibility was increasing with each passing day, and that it would regain power after general polls. He said the entry of other parties’ renowned politicians in the PML-N was a solid proof of its increasing popularity.
