President Zardari reviews Zulfikarabad project

President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday directed officials concerned to take extreme care in fulfilling the ecological requirements for the new Zulfiqarabad city in Thatta district.
The president while chairing a meeting to review the ongoing project at Bilawal House said that Zulfiqarabad had to be and would be a model city to be followed throughout the country.
He said the new city was destined to gain commercial and economic prominence in the next few years.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali and provincial ministers, Pakistan Ambassador to United States of America (USA) Sherry Rehman, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Shazia Marri besides senior officials of Zulfiqarabad Development Authority (ZDA) and officials of the president’s secretariat.
Zardari was given an extensive briefing about the project by the ZDA Managing Director Lt. Gen (retd) Iftikhar Hussain Shah.
The meeting discussed in detail the different issues related to Zulfikarabad city, especially the issue that the project would require one million acres of land in stage-I.
President Zardari said the project would also retain the cultural and historical traditions of Thatta that at one point of time was also a major commercial hub in South Asia.

Ambassadors present credentials to President

Ambassadors of seven countries including the United States of America (USA) presented their credentials to President Asif Ali Zardari at a special ceremony held at the Governor House on Wednesday. The Ambassadors of Hungry, Jordan, Belgium, Uzbekistan, Oman, USA and High Commissioner of Canada, after presenting their credentials called on the president separately and discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest with him.
The president felicitated the newly appointed ambassadors and expressed the hope that they would work for further cementing ties of their respective countries with Pakistan.
Earlier upon arrival at the Governor House, national anthems of Pakistan and the respective countries were played. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Hungry Istvan Szabo, Ambassador of Jordan Maj Gen (Retd) Nawaf Khalifeh Ibrahim Saraireh, Ambassador of Belgium Peter L.J.F. Claes, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Parvez Aliev, High Commissioner of Canada Greg Giokas, Ambassador of Oman Riyadh Ahmad Yousif Al-Raisi and Ambassador of USA Richard Olson.
A smart looking contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the envoys.
