A delegation of the Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded (PML-LM) met with PML-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence on Wednesday, and discussed the possibility of seat-to-seat adjustment with his party for the general elections.
The PML-LM delegation included Hamid Nasir Chattha‚ Saleem Saifullah Khan and Hamayun Akhtar, while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif‚ Senator Ishaq Dar were among other senior PML-N leaders present on the occasion.
During the meeting‚ the two sides discussed the overall political situation in the country as well as the strategy for the next general elections. Sources in the PML-N said that during the meeting, provincial committees were formed for giving PML-LM electoral seats under the seat adjustment formula. They said the final shape to the distribution of 30 National Assembly seats would be given after consultations with the PML-N’s provincial leadership. Salim Saifullah Khan, a senior member of the Likeminded group called for uniting all PML factions. He added that the unification of PML factions would benefit PML-N President Nawaz Sharif. Meanwhile, a party meeting chaired by Nawaz was also held in which he directed party workers and leaders to speed up the election campaign. He also took the participants of the meeting into confidence regarding his conversation with Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. Sources said the PM had assured Nawaz that elections would be held on time, and that they would be transparent.
