500 police personnel to man Old City Area

The government has made a decision to appoint 500 police personnel, set up police check posts and install barriers in the old city area of the metropolis for the protection of traders who are plagued by the extortionists, media reports stated on Wednesday.
At least 500 personnel of the Sindh Reserve Police would be deployed in old city area which was the worst affected area by incessant extortion activities.
According to ASP (Assistant Superintendant of Police) Kharadar Usman Bajwa, the government constituted a committee comprising representatives of traders, CPLC (Citizens-Police Liaison Committee) and police officers. The committee visited different markets of the city and specified the points where security would be enhanced. According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Vice President Nasir Mehmood, the government made many pledges in the past as well but no plan had materialized during this time.
