The rain stopped the Sri Lanka and New Zealand one-of T20 match at a time when the Kiwis were at 24 for five by 8.4 overs.
The groundsmen got active and pulled the covers on to the pitch. It’s drizzling once again in Pallekele after the match start was delayed earlier.
The conditions have been difficult for batting and Sri Lanka’s seam bowlers have used them well. They haven’t tried to do much at all, just keep the ball on good lines and lengths and let the pitch do the rest. New Zealand have had no answers.
Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews elected to field after winning the toss on Tuesday.
New Zealand will also play five one-day internationals and two Tests on their their month-long tour.
