Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on Tuesday that the notion pertaining to lack of protection of the Hindus in Sindh is baseless and there is no truth in it, as certain elements are spreading such propaganda to serve their own vested interests.
He was talking to a representative delegation of the Hindu community which met him in his office.
The minister informed the delegation that the present democratic government was aware of the problems of the minority community.
He said that for the resolution of the same, a 15-member committee had been formed on the directive of President Asif Ali Zardari.
The committee would prepare its recommendation for the resolution of the problems of the minority community and the government would ensure strict implementation of these recommendations, he noted.
The minister pointed out that in the constitution of Pakistan, the minorities enjoyed full freedom.
The 1973 constitution guarantees the protection of the minority communities living within the country, he maintained.
Mukesh said that the Hindu community was playing a prominent role in the development of the province.
He further stated that the government was providing full protection to the minorities.
The members of the delegation expressed their satisfaction at the measures taken by the government for their well being.
