Sacrificial animals’ sale banned in Rawalpindi

Sellers of sacrificial animals would not be allowed to enter the city, as special animals markets had been establishment at various points ahead of Eid-ul-Azha in a bid to keep the city clean.
A district administration official said, “A special task force had been constituted to take action against violators, to impose fines and even confiscate their animals”.
He said that sellers from adjoining areas were being directed to take their animals to these markets, and the task force had not allowed them to conduct business near residential areas. The city district government had allotted eight open spaces for the establishment of ‘mandis’ for sacrificial animals.
City district government had started conducting raids against the sellers and their animals were also confiscated and fines were imposed in this regard.
‘Mandis’ had been established in outer parts of the city to avoid congestion and traffic problems.
The Potohar Town Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) told APP that special markets had been established at Channi, Rawat, Chakri Road and Adiala Road near Gorakhpur.
The cantonment management had also allowed sellers to establish ‘mandis’ in its jurisdiction. The Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) told APP that three animal markets had been established at Chor Chowk, Dhoke Saydian and Dhoke Gujran. Every year on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, a large number of sacrificial animals were brought in Rawalpindi city.
Dhoke Syedan, Bagh Sardaran, Chungi No-22 near Bakra Mandi, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Choor near Shah Piyara, Misriyal Road, Scheme No-III, Dhoke Kala Khan, and Sadiqabad were famous animal markets for Eid-ul-azha.
District Officer Solid Waste Management, Dr. Mazhar told APP that all necessary arrangements had been completed to keep the city neat and clean on Eid. He said that comprehensive cleanliness plans for Eid had been devised to get rid of the entrails of animals, and over 1,553 sanitary workers would perform this duty. He said that 100 vehicles and a large number of hand carts would be used to remove garbage and offal from all city areas during Eid holidays. ACEO Rawalpindi Cantonment Board said that its sanitation branch had finalized arrangements for cleanliness on Eid-ul-Azha. Proper arrangements in this regard had been made, he said.
He urged people to cooperate with sanitary workers and said that garbage, entrails of sacrificial animals and offal should be dumped at specific points so they could be removed properly.
