Nation has high hopes from judiciary: Munawar

Ameer Jamaat e Islami Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the judiciary was the only institution that had stood against the government for the last five years in spite of its confrontation, and come up to the nation’s expectations.
Addressing the Lahore district bar on Wednesday, he said that the Supreme Court ’s historic decisions including those in the NRO and Asghar Khan’s cases had breathed a new life among the masses, and expressed the hope that instead of depending on the FIA and the other government agencies, the Supreme Court itself would bring the culprits to the dock and ensure full justice to the nation.
The JI Ameer said that for the last five years, the rulers had been obstructing the implementation of the SC orders. The rulers welcomed the court decisions which were in their favour but abhorred those which went against them, and delayed compliance on those on one excuse or the other.
Syed Munawar Hasan thanked the Chief Justice Pakistan for fresh his suo moto notice on the Karachi situation but added that the nation wanted the apex court to ensure implementation of the court decisions and free the people of Karachi from the clutches of the target killers and extortionists.
The JI Ameer further said that the government was not inclined to hold elections but the JI would force it for that with the active support of the public, and added that an Opposition’s Grand Alliance was essential for that.
He urged the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure peaceful elections without any fear and said the whole nation would be with the Election Commission.
Syed Munawar Hasan said a change in the country was possible only through elections. He assured the masses of a peaceful revolution in the country if the people rejected the feudal and capitalist families controlling the assemblies for the last 65 years.
He called for immediate stoppage of military operations in Balochistan and other parts of the country and adopting the path of dialogue and Jirgas with the tribal people. The US pressure for military operations should be rejected as it would only divide the nation.
He said that Washington’s motive for interference in the country was crystal clear by now as it aimed at building India as the regional power to be a threat to China and also to be close to Iran.
Earlier, the President Lahore District Bar, Zulfikar Ahmed, appreciated the JI decision to boycott the 2008 elections, and said that JI had upheld the constitution and the law. He said the PPP, the PML(N) and other parties sitting in the parliament had been elected in the unconstitutional elections organized by Pervez Musharfaf and were still with his policies.
The JI Ameer was given a rousing welcome at on arrival at the Aiwan e Adal.
