The 21st All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest 2012 was held at Cadet College Petaro.
The college had invited delegations of 42 universities, colleges, cadet colleges and public schools however, 24 institutions sent their teams for the contest. Among those who participated were Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutoo Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST Karachi), Aga Khan University Pakistan, Steel Cadet College Karachi, Pakistan Marine Academy, Cadet Colleges of Larkana and Sanghar, Baqai Cadet College Karachi, LUMHS Jamshoro, Hayat Girls College Hyderabad, DOW University, Govt. College University Lahore, University of Punjab, Cadet College Mastung, Bahria Colleges of Karsaz, NORE-I and PNET. Sindh Secretary for Education Mukhtar Hussain Soomro as chief guest was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the college for hosting the august event and hoped that all institutions of the country would make debates a mandatory co-curricular activity. Responding to the complaint of Cadet College Petaro of not being granted Rs. 15 millions by the provincial government, he said that he would ask Sindh Secretary Finance to release the grant.
Cadet College Petaro Commandant and Principal Commodore Muhammad Afzal addressing on the occasion said that such events not only pollination of ideas but also facilitated cultural exchanges and assimilation.
Sub Lt. Farrukh Niaz of PN Engineering College of PNS Jauhar Karachi secured the first position while Umer Dar of Aga Khan University Karachi came in second in the English category. Abdul Wasif of Dow Medical College Karachi and Ansub Raza, University of Karachi were joint candidates for the third position.
In Urdu declamation contest, Ijlal Mubeen of NED University Karachi came in first while Hasan Hameed of NORE-I, Karachi and Adnan Farooq from G.C Lahore bagged second and third positions respectively.
The Champion’s Trophy was clinched by NED University Karachi while Bahria NORE-I Karachi was declared runners up of the contest.
