It’s on Google: Pervaiz Elahi died in 2008!

A glitch in Google’s record that declares Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi “dead” has annoyed the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), which asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take immediate legal action against the internet search giant. PML-Q spokesman Malik Mustafa said on Tuesday that the party reserved the right to sue Google. On the other hand, PTA officials showed complete ignorance on the issue. If “Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi” is searched on Google, a description window shows that the “current deputy prime minister” died in 2008.
The PML-Q spokesman said the party had lodged a protest with Google through e-mail. He said that Elahi was a popular leader of the country and was currently serving the people as deputy prime minister. “It is very much possible that some of his opponents had posted the ad on Google, mentioning his date of death to malign his reputation,” Mustafa said. The PTA officials, when contacted, refused to comment on the error, saying they did not know anything about the matter. The PTA chairman did not respond to phone calls or texts sent to his mobile phone. Google has not corrected the error until the filing of this report, despite the fact that the matter had been brought to its notice.

  1. Another glaring discrepancy is that the said description windows mentions Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi's date of birth as November 1, 1945 whereas on the same page the Wikipedia link mentions the date as November 1, 1945. What a farce? Which one is correct?
