A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday stopped Punjab University Head of Physics Department Dr Shaukat Ali from work. The division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan and Justice Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi passed the order on an inter-court appeal filed by Muneer Ahmad against dismissal of a writ petition for removal of Dr Shaukat Ali by a LHC single bench. The bench also sought a report from Punjab University vice chancellor by November 11 besides issuing a notice to Dr Shaukat Ali. Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel told the court that Dr Shaukat Ali committed fraud with the Punjab University by submitting a fake Matric certificate. He contended that his date of birth was 1954 whereas he submitted a matric certificate showing his date of birth 1959. He submitted that two inquiries were initiated against the fraud by the university but it did not reach any conclusion. However, a university committee acknowledged that the respondent had committed fraud. He pointed out that a LHC single bench dismissed petitioner’s plea seeking removal of Dr Shaukat Ali for committing fraud. He asked the bench to set aside the orders of single bench and directions be issued to remove the respondent from service. The bench after hearing the arguments stopped Dr Shaukat Ali from work and sought a report from Punjab University vice chancellor by November 11.
