Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain on Tuesday tendered resignation from his Senate seat.
Though reasons for Dr Asim’s resignation could not be ascertained immediately, sources say the advisor resigned from the upper house seat due to unconfirmed reports over his dual nationality.
On September 20, the Supreme Court ruled that 11 lawmakers holding dual nationalities were not eligible to hold any public offices and declared all such lawmakers as disqualified.
It ordered the disqualified lawmakers to return the amount spent on their salaries and perks.
Acting Chairman Senate, Sabir Baloch accepted Dr Asim’s resignation, sources said.
