According to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Zafar Iqbal, over five million people had been affected by floods. Around 455 people had been killed and 2,884 had sustained injuries.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that a total of 466,026 houses had been damaged as a result of the recent floods. Around 275,023 houses had been completely razed and 191,003 were partially destroyed in flood hit areas.
He said that as many as 14,370 villages had been inundated in recent floods. Around 121,992 acres of standing crops had been damaged. NDMA had helped flood hit people by mobilizing its own resources.
NDMA had established 441 relief camps to provide basic amenities of life to 266,037 marooned people. Due to the recent rains, over 5,056,489 persons had been affected, he added.
He said that NDMA had distributed 42,630 tents and 220,995 food packs. Around 42,250 packs had been distributed in Balochistan, 161,245 in Sindh, and 17,500 in Punjab.
He said that a total of 275,000 houses and shops had been destroyed, 235,831 houses in Sindh, 25,442 in Punjab, 8,626 in Balochistan, 4,392 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,243 in Azad Kashmir and 70 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
A total of 155,662 houses and shops had been damaged partially in flood-hit areas of the country, including 132,282 in Sindh, 16,440 in Punjab, 4,289 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,564 in Balochistan, 1,017 in AJK and 70 in Gilgit- Baltistan.
Everything was in place, including vaccines to fight malaria and even snake bites. There had been several deaths due to snake-bites in the previous floods, he added.
