Allama Iqbal International Airport on Monday turned into a battlefield when infuriated workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) clashed with Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel.
Workers were present at the airport to welcome Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, the recently elected president of PPP, Punjab.
Clashes erupted when ASF personnel restricted PPP workers’ entry into airport’s main hall.
The workers in large number were shouting pro-party slogans when they entered airport premises. The airport security force resorted to baton charge when PPP workers attacked them with bamboo sticks while trying to enter into the passenger lounge.
The situation disrupted the smooth functioning of the airport, forcing the authorities to make the domestic passengers leave through the international arrivals lounge.
Security has been compromised completely as CAA and ASF both seem helpless against the angry rioters.
Several ASF personnel and PPP workers were reportedly injured as both sides used batons.
