It has been a while since Bond battled a truly unforgettable baddie — but Javier Bardem’s menacing and memorable creation for new movie Skyfall is up there with Blofeld, Jaws and Oddjob. The rugged Spanish actor plays vengeful villain Raoul Silva in the 23rd official Bond movie, which is out on Friday. Don’t be fooled by Silva’s foppish peroxide swirl of a haircut and camp manner. It’s clear he means business as he embarks on a ruthless and bloody campaign to take out Britain’s spies. Javier, 43, who was given huge creative freedom when it came to fleshing out the character, is making something of a name for himself playing baddies with bad haircuts. He won an Oscar for his portrayal of psychotic hitman Anton Chigurh, who had a bizarre bowl barnet, in the thriller No Country For Old Men. But the star of Before Night Falls, Biutiful, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Eat, Pray, Love was not about to turn down the chance to fulfill a boyhood fantasy and appear in a Bond movie. Even better, Skyfall marks the golden anniversary of 007 at the cinema. Javier revealed: “I’m a huge fan of the James Bond saga, so I was always very open to the idea.
