ECP can’t initiate action against politicians: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakharud Din G Ibrahim has said constitution provides no room for initiation of action against the politicians in Asghar Khan case.
He was talking to media men Monday after his meeting with the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
He told the newsmen no decision could be taken on eligibility of interior minister Rehman Malik in dual nationality case because no reference had been received from chairman senate in this regard so far. His eligibility matter would be decided after the reference was forwarded by chairman senate, he added.
Responding to a question on general elections CEC said he had met CJP and he made request to CJP for appointment of judicial officers during the polls. CJP had assured full cooperation on this count, he stated.
He held when the nomination papers would be filed by the politicians for upcoming general elections then it would be examined first of all if they were truthful and Ameen as per constitution.
